2023 is a big year for Leeds, with the Year of Culture celebrating creativity and community in Yorkshire’s biggest city across all 365 days. We worked with Visit Leeds to streamline its editorial toolkit in the run-up to this landmark year.
The challenge? The sheer amount of events and activity in Leeds made it hard to keep track of what’s going on. Communities, businesses and tourist-sector partners wanted Visit Leeds to promote their activities on its widely-read website. So did Visit Leeds. But researching, gathering and uploading everything was pretty laborious – and not the best use of the team’s talents or time.
To improve this process, we’ve streamlined the way Visit Leeds publishes on its website. Local partners can use CultureHosts to upload event details, which are then published on Visit Leeds or the resident-focused listings website Leeds Inspired. A checklist of metadata guidelines ensures listing information is safe and suitable for publishing. Because Visit Leeds and Leeds Inspired have different audiences and needs, this category data helps them organise and target content.
With a more efficient editorial process, Visit Leeds has gained back time and resources to focus on other areas of promoting the region.
